ABOUT MEDIATION
Mediation is a form of Alternative Dispute Resolution that promotes resolution and settlement of disputes out of court. It provides a confidential, neutral, and impartial environment to discuss and target issues of mutual interest or concern in order to reach a solution.
Conflicts are inevitable
Mediation is a service that allows the parties to manage and resolve conflict. It is my goal to facilitate discussion, navigate to identify points of consensus, and when necessary, to help discover creative solutions.
As an attorney
I have seen legal disputes that spanned many years, costing parties extraordinary time, energy, and money.
As a mediator
I have seen parties depart from a mediation feeling liberated and empowered by the idea of moving forward after resolution.
As a coach, I combine my skills and experience from a decades-long legal practice, and several years as a mediator and adjunct professor of negotiation, to assist parties in developing communication tools in order to maximize effective communication and minimize conflict going forward. I have done extensive research on unconscious bias and stereotypes in the workplace and have published a chapter on gender bias in negotiations. I am passionate about assisting women attorneys in negotiating starting salaries and promoting the advancement and equality of women attorneys in the legal profession. Currently, I am a graduate student in the online Masters of Psychology Program at Pepperdine University and I am researching the impact of gender bias on women attorneys with regard to job turnover.

Click here for forms and answers to other DYI divorce questions. Call the help desk at the Texas State Law Library. 512-854-8677. They can answer many basic questions.
Can you mediate child support?
Once child support has been ordered by a court, modifications and changes may be mediated. For further answers to child support questions, click here.
Why should I pay for a mediation if I am going to have to hire an attorney for certain proceedings?
It is vital to have an attorney present for any contested family matter. An attorney’s advice on contested family law issues such as child support, custody, and property division, is critical. Still depending on the size of the case, contested matters can be resolved out of court. A one-day mediation will cost infinitely less than several days in trial. If you have an uncontested divorce, or you have a pre-divorce or post-divorce matter, mediation is ideal. It will allow the parties to expedite resolution resulting in a saving of time and costs.
